Is Becoming a Life Coach Worth It?
If you’re considering becoming a life coach, you already know that it will require an investment of your time and effort to become a life coach and start your life coaching business or make connections to work in-house within organizations. While plenty of slick marketers online will promote programs saying “Become a life coach in a weekend!” or “Get your business up by next week!” the reality of becoming a life coach and starting your coaching practice is that to become a masterful coach, you’ll need to make sure that you get proper training and put time and effort into learning about marketing.
The Courageous Living Coach Certification is a Level 1 ICF-Accredited program and we give all of our participants marketing and business operations resources so that they can figure out how to brand their business, what kind of coaching to offer and how to price it, and how to confidently talk about what you do. We make it easier, giving you your initial sample client contracts and business materials and teaching you how to run your first sessions so that you can get started taking paid clients, quickly.
Here are the top reasons why becoming a life coach is worth it:
Waking up knowing that you’ll be doing work you actually believe in. There’s no more soul-sucking job doing work for a company you don’t believe in. Working with life coaching clients is an incredible feeling. You’re supporting people to on a journey to change their lives for the better. What has it meant to you when someone has supported you through times of big transitions, trying to make decisions, or when you’ve felt stuck in your life? Now take that and multiply it, because the feeling of being able to support someone else during these conversations is even better.
Flexibility and freedom with your time. You get to be the one who is in charge of your schedule and how you want the flow of your day to go. Some coaches like to have sessions only in the afternoons, others like to have a week full of sessions followed by a week with absolutely nothing on their calendar. Marketing your coaching practice is part of your day to day, but in a world where you can pre-schedule newsletters or social media updates, even that can be done in one batch and then your time is freed up to do something else. Want to be a digital nomad? You can do that as a coach.
Continuous growth and learning. If you’re drawn to coaching, you’re probably already someone who is drawn to continuous growth and learning. You get excited about a journaling prompt, exploring life’s big questions, or thinking about the human experience. Now imagine that that’s your job and your life, to study how humans change, different ways to surmount roadblocks, the exploration of human potential. If you’re working within an organization as an in-house coach, you’re still exploring these topics, just with a more organizational context. Navigating relationships, how to authentically be who we really are, better communication, and living happier lives are topics that will apply whether you choose to have a private coaching practice or work in-house.
